Mediation Education and Training

After obtaining my law degree in 1989 (and a federal clerkship and 4 years practicing law) I took a job with the University of WI law school teaching in a legal clinic that provided legal services to inmates. In that process was trained and thereafter served as Director of “The Restorative Justice Project” conducting prison based victim offender mediations in crimes of severe violence.

After 8 years in this capacity I moved back to Iowa and worked with the Iowa Peace Institute, doing school based restorative justice training and interventions, as well as private mediations in all kinds of civil cases. I also served as a consultant with the Iowa Department of Corrections working with the implementation of restorative justice principals

I then spent almost 8 years with the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Serivces coordinating their “Circles of Support” program, working with high risk offenders returning to the community from prison. I also helped with the youth prevention programs run by probation and parole.

Since then I have coached high school and college football and spent the past 7 years working in a small law firm doing all criminal defense work. During that time I facilitated cases on a voluntary basis in juvenile and school settings.

Over the years I have easily participated in more than 200 hours of training and conducted/presented hundreds of mediation and restorative justice trainings.
